SAFEGUARDING IS EVERYONE’S RESPONSIBILITY
Our Safeguarding Team brings a wealth of experience to the school. Our Safeguarding Team is:
Phillipa Rouet – Designated Safeguarding Lead – Vice Principal
Guy Gibson – Deputy Safeguarding Lead – Pastoral Lead
Paul Baxter – Deputy Safeguarding Lead – KS4 Intervention Manager
Mervyn Laxon - Deputy Safeguarding Lead – Assistant Principal
The Safeguarding Team is trained beyond the statutory guidance found in Keeping Children Safe in Education, 2016 and the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act, 2015. Training courses attended include Internet Safety, Prevent Training and Safer recruitment.
Whole school training is given to all staff annually. In addition to the statutory training, training in current ‘trends’ in safeguarding is given during the course of the year. All new staff have induction training in safeguarding and the Single Central Record (SCR) is updated to reflect this.
We believe that the whole school community has a responsibility for ensuring that all members of our community are aware of issues around safeguarding and they know how to keep themselves safe. We support this ethos through the curriculum in PSHE, Tutorials and by example in all subjects. Our Assembly Programme further supports this approach.
Bristol Technology and Engineering Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. It is our expectation that all staff, volunteers and members of the school community share this commitment.
